Strategies, Options, and Solutions (SOS) was started by Dr. Damera Vijayalakshmi in 2002. It was inaugurated by the then Collector Mr. Satish Chandra. SOS is the clinic to cater to the psychological requirements of the locals. It is a Psychological Assessment and Therapy Center. To understand its objectives let us understand its meaning.
·
A strategy is a plan or approach for
achieving a particular goal or objective. It involves making a series of
choices and decisions about how to allocate resources, manage risks, and
overcome obstacles in order to achieve the desired result.
·
Options are different paths or
courses of action that are available for achieving a particular goal. Each
option may have its own advantages and disadvantages, and the choice of which
option to pursue will depend on a variety of factors such as time constraints,
available resources, and potential risks.
·
Solutions are specific actions or
steps that can be taken to address a particular problem or challenge. A
solution may involve implementing a new process, developing a new product, or
changing a particular aspect of an existing system or structure.
In summary,
strategies, options, and solutions are all useful tools for problem-solving and
decision-making in a wide range of contexts, from business and finance to
personal relationships and everyday life. They can help individuals and
organizations to achieve their goals, manage risks, and overcome obstacles more
effectively.
SOS can also be
connected to the Morse code and is a distress signal used internationally to
request help in emergency situations. The letters "SOS" themselves do
not stand for anything specific in this context, but were chosen because they
are easily recognizable and can be transmitted quickly and clearly. The SOS
signal is recognized as a distress call; in this scenario, it can be considered
as a centre to come to when in psychological distress. When someone sends an
SOS signal, they are indicating that they are in urgent need of assistance due
to an immediate and serious threat to their safety or well-being. Responders
will typically take immediate action to locate and provide aid to the person or
people in distress. With this intention, SOS has worked consistently at
addressing the psychological needs of the people of Kakinada and its
surrounding areas. Over a period of time its name has reached far and wide and
today it’s a source of support even internationally.
SOS since 2002, has
addressed challenges in all areas of life, right from Parenting to old age
issues. The journey of SOS has made it reach far and wide. It has not just been
a center for empowerment but also a center for research on challenges in life. individualized
solutions have been worked on and specific solutions to various challenges have
been arrived at.
Strategies, Options,
and Solutions has addressed various issues which can be categorized into six
broad areas of
1.
Parenting: Is Parenting
Important?
Nurturing each child
based on their innate abilities can strengthen their neural connections making
each person unique and extraordinary in their own way. But most of the time
parents and family included nurture based on their own thoughts and the world’s
requirements thus neglecting the child’s innate abilities and talents. The
right Nurturance paves the way for enhancing one’s potential thereby being happy
and successful with ease.
2.
Learning Strategies: Is developing
your own Study Skills pattern important?
Each and every
individual has their own unique sensors to receive and process information.
Hence learning enhancement can happen only when we understand our style rather
than imitate others’ techniques which may make us uncomfortable. Getting to
know your own learning style and mastering your mind thus affect the academic
performance we show to the world outside. This also is depicted as success to
most people. Using our own unique style of learning can thus make us achieve in
the manner and speed with which we are comfortable in and not one causing
stress and tension.
3.
Discovering the self: Is it necessary
to discover oneself?
There
is no one on par with yourself, there is no one who can compete and compare
with yourself. You are one of a kind.
But are you aware of that? Most people keep comparing themselves with
others and lose sight of their own style and individuality which is their
essence. We get polluted trying to imitate and be whom we are not thus
pretending and showcasing ourselves to be who we are not. When how we think,
how we feel and the way we act is not harmonious we give mixed signals to
others which also results in personal unhappiness. We are happy when we are
pure, simple, truthful, and genuine. Once you discover yourself life is the
best place to be on!
4.
Success in Career: Is becoming
independent in a career important?
“Independence is the reason for all strivings
and human effort! From womb to tomb each person struggles to face challenges in
life and try to be independent and self-sufficient. In our attempts at
independence, we also like to showcase ourselves and thus come achievement and
winning. Career path needs to be chosen based on our potential and opportunity.
Some are lucky while some aren’t and this leads to most of the strife in the
world around us. Success in a career is influenced by our potential, knowledge,
experience, skills, fate, and many other factors. Success in a career influences
our opinion about ourselves.
5.
Marital Harmony: Is marital harmony
important?
Marriages are made
in heaven! This is a fact of life but most people feel negative about their
life partner and frequently find faults with their spouse mainly because their
spouse is not according to their expectations. In their endeavor to be happy
and be in control of the relationship, they exercise control over their partner
and land up in problems because of relationship challenges. egoism,
communication, attitude, etc., and all contribute to marital disharmony. At the
end of the day, most couples are left frustrated, disillusioned about life, in
a blame game pattern, with increased negativity, etc. It is very important to
know why are we made for each other and why did Destiny give you this life
partner. It is then, when you look deeper, that you understand the significance
of the marriage with your respective spouse. Looking at the objective analysis
of marriage makes marital harmony possible not from a personal point of view
but from objectivity.
6.
Living Purposefully: Is living
purposefully so important?
As we travel through
the journey of life we face many challenges and we also have plenty of sweet
memories that we carry with us. As we grow older and transit from adulthood to
middle age to old age we need to consolidate all experiences positively failing
which we become bitter trying to only recall all disturbances, traumatic
situations, and hurt that people have given us. The belief systems that we
carry with us pave the way for the accumulation of pent-up emotions and
feelings that are not expressed and this peaks during the later halves of our
lives resulting in frustration and negativity.
WHY SOS?
The purpose of SOS
is to provide professional mental health services to individuals who are
experiencing emotional, behavioral, or psychological problems. SOS typically offers
a range of services, such as psychological assessments, individual and group
therapy, and counseling for various mental health conditions, including
anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction, and relationship issues.
SOS is trained to
assess, diagnose, and treat mental health conditions using evidence-based
interventions. It also provides education and support to individuals and
families, as well as referrals to other healthcare providers and community
resources.
The goal of SOS is
to help individuals improve their mental health and overall well-being by
addressing their unique needs and concerns. By providing a safe and supportive
environment, SOS can help individuals gain insight into their thoughts and
behaviors, develop coping skills, and make positive changes in their lives.
While some
psychology clinics may have a research component to their operations, a
psychology clinic primarily focuses on providing clinical services to clients
seeking mental health treatment. The clinical services provided by a psychology
clinic are typically geared towards helping clients manage and improve their
mental health, rather than conducting research.
SOS as a Research
Centre:
Along with treatments
or interventions, SOS has also been researching challenges people face and
efforts have been made to evaluate the effectiveness of certain challenges or
to develop new treatment approaches. This research has helped to inform and
improve the quality of clinical services provided by the clinic. Hence SOS has
served as a research base along with providing clinical services to clients
seeking mental health treatment.
